I wish coffee was able to make me act batshit insane. Instead I first feel slightly less tired, then really sleepy.

Batshit insane is a pretty good description of it, but damn do i ever get energetic! I usually try to avoid it unless I need to reset my sleep schedule or something drastic like that, because my body is doing things right now that it probably shouldn’t be doing. I don’t get it, because I drink tea and caffeinated soda all the time but only coffee really has this ridiculous effect ;__;

Digital art isn’t real! Even if you print out anything you’ve done on the computer, even if you use really nice acid-free paper and archive-quality inks, it’s not real! It will physically disappear if the electricity goes out or the internet goes down. Hope you don’t blow a fuse in the middle of your job interview, you might just open your portfolio and find nothing but blank pages! But I won’t have that problem because I make REAL art.

True story, once my router broke and everything I’d inked and colored on the computer reverted to a pencil sketch. This is all fact, you know because you read it on Deviant Art.

next apartment checklist: someplace where I can do PROPER LAUNDRY. Ideally an in-unit top loading washer so I can actually dye and felt things, but at least with machines that you can control beyond HOT WASH WARM RINSE and COLD WASH COLD RINSE DELICATE CYCLE.

I mean I want to wash my jeans in cold water so they don’t shrink or fade, but I want the agitator tobeat the fuck out of them so they actually get clean. Is this too much to ask.

Mainly though I just want to dye things without covering my cookware in deadly poison and/or awkward shades of dye ;_;

This cat is pretty cute but oh my god if it’s panting like that there might be a problem. Best case scenario it’s just playing way too hard, but it could have asthma or heart problems. Panting like that isn’t normal for cats, it means it can’t get enough oxygen.

Source: my stupid cat that cost me like $250 because he ran around the vet’s office like a bat out of hell and then started panting. His bloodwork was fine and his x-ray was inconclusive, so the diagnosis was to keep him from playing too energetically. HOW DO YOU KEEP A SIAMESE CAT FROM PLAYING ENERGETICALLY. HOW.

On this International Working Women’s Day, March 8, it’s instructive to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Bread & Roses strike, which provides valuable lessons for our struggles today.

The March 12 date marks the end of the two-month strike of 25,000 textile workers in Lawrence, Mass., which was the center of the New England textile industry. It’s estimated that one company annually produced woolen and cotton goods worth $45 million — an amazing sum 100 years ago!

But the companies did not share that wealth with the workers, who averaged less than $9 a week. Living and working conditions were so bad that a Lawrence physician reported that “thirty-six out of every 100 of all men and women who work in the mill die before or by the time they are twenty-five years of age” due to malnutrition, occupational diseases and speed-up.

Known as the Bread & Roses strike — because at least half the strikers were young women between 14 and 18 who carried signs reading “We want bread and roses too” – this work stoppage offers a shining example of how the unity, organization and determined spirit of the workers stopped corporate greed and the police state that imprisoned strikers on its behalf. It also shows how a strike can become an incipient revolution.

There is growing outrage in Uganda over a viral internet film viewed by more than 32 million people in four days that suggests Africa’s longest-running conflict is still raging in the country’s north.

The 30-minute video, Kony2012, was produced by three American videographers campaigning for greater efforts to capture Joseph Kony, the leader of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA).

But Kony and his diminishing troops, many of them kidnapped child soldiers, fled northern Uganda six years ago and are now spread across the jungles of neighbouring countries.

“What that video says is totally wrong, and it can cause us more problems than help us,” said Dr Beatrice Mpora, director of Kairos, a community health organisation in Gulu, a town that was once the centre of the rebels’ activities.

“There has not been a single soul from the LRA here since 2006. Now we have peace, people are back in their homes, they are planting their fields, they are starting their businesses. That is what people should help us with.”
